I’ve just come back from my favorite convention of all time. Not that the clown convention that I attended several years ago in Denver wasn’t delightful, it was.
However, there’s something magical about the Vent Haven Convention in Hebron, Kentucky at the Cincinnati Airport Marriott.
Every year ventriloquists from all over the world gather for workshops, comraderie, presentations and fabulous entertainment of their peers, both professional and amateur.
Every year, since I’ve attended for the past five years, I get motivated and inspired to take my skills and writing up to the next level. It’s such a happy time – away from the everyday world of work to the work of comedy and entertainment, which is really a labor of love and fun.
Everyone is approachable – from Jeff Dunham signing puppets and books to Jay Johnson, Dan Horn, Jimmy Nelson, Sammy King and other veteran entertainers giving pointers in passing conversations.
Not one person at the convention was egotistical or said dismissively, “talk to the hand.”
Though many of us did!
