Hilly The Clown
A Merry Heart Does Good Like a Medicine! Hilly the Clown has entertained children of all ages for over 25 years. She began her career in Seattle, Washington, and later brought her skills to Colorado and Alaska.
Hillary Saffran aka Hilly the Clown has been trained as a Certified Laughter Leader through the World Laughter Tour. She is a member of the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor as well as the World Clown Association. She has been a member of Colorado Clowns.
In addition to performing as a clown, she is an actress and singer, and has enjoyed operating her own singing telegram business for over 20 years. Her audiences have been delighted and charmed by being presented with a personalized singing telegram of their very own. She has played many characters for a multitude of occasions. Hillary has been the Easter Bunny, a cheerleader, French maid, Marilyn Monroe, flapper, fairy princess, angel, and space alien character as well as having donned her top hat and tails.
Hillary’s passion is music – her children’s CD “Musical Hugs for the Young Child“ formerly called “An Afternoon with Hilly the Clown”, is a popular gift item for children and parents, and is often given as a gift at baby showers. It contains several original songs and other traditional numbers.
She has been trained as a Kindermusik teacher as well as the Music Together curriculum. Hillary also has experience as a trainer for the Child Care Connection in Anchorage, AK. She created several workshops for childcare workers in the process of obtaining their early childhood development associate certification. The topics Hillary taught on were “Music for Infants and Toddlers”, “Building the Brain with Music”, “Music and Movement” ,”Circle Time”, “Math for the Very Young”, “Adult Active Listening Skills” and “Dramatic Play.” Hillary has had experience as a preschool teacher and has been trained as a certified Kinderdance Early Childhood Education Movement Specialist and Junior Jazzercise Instructor.
One of Hillary’s favorite activities was performing with improvisational theater groups such as Denver Theater Sports. If you feel the need to laugh and loved the show “Whose Line Is It Anyway”, you’ll really enjoy having fun with improv! Hillary uses improvisational theatre techniques as one way of having her audiences join in the fun at trainings and events.

Hillary and Friends performed at our preschool library program. Hillary’s performance of singing, puppetry, and storytelling was riveting for both children and parents. Not only did she entertain but provided a strong message about the value of reading and libraries.
